The phylum Tardigrada has been expanded by several new taxa in recent decades and increased to more than 960 species. In spite of their overall abundance, tardigrades have received relatively little attention over the last 200 years. The Tardigrade Barcoding Project (TBP) is a global effort to coordinate studies, discover new species, provide a practical tool for specimen identification, and promote scientific investigation into these fascinating animals.
